Housing lottery applications are open for 65 rent-stabilized apartments at the next phase of a new development in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Households that earn $34,776 to $175,000 are eligible to apply, depending on the number of people you live with. Rents start at $903 for a studio.
Developed by Tavros Holdings and Charney Companies, Douglass Port is the latest addition to the amenity-packed Gowanus Wharf retail, residential, and arts campus located at 251 Douglass St. directly across from Thomas Greene Park. Less than half a mile from the Union Street D, N, R, and W subway stop, the development is also under a mile from the Bergen Street and Atlantic Avenue/Barclays stations.
Douglass Port’s amenities include a fitness center, yoga and dance studio, rooftop sundeck and outdoor BBQ area, children’s playroom, basketball court, and both car and bike parking. Up to two dogs are allowed with no pet deposit required, and rent includes hot water and heat.
The apartments are set aside for New Yorkers earning from 40 to 100 percent of the area median income (AMI)—a metric that depends on how many people you live with. Currently the AMI for New York City is $129,600 for a two-person household. The apartments available include studios as well as one- and two-bedroom units.

There are 13 one-bedroom apartments available for households earning from $51,703.00 to $105,000 a year. The rent for these apartments is $1,777.
Developers have set aside 20 percent of units for Brooklyn Community Board 7 residents. Another 10 percent will be preferentially given to NYC employees and/or veterans, while 5 percent are for people with mobility access needs and 2 percent for those with visual or hearing access needs.
Applications must be submitted online or postmarked no later than March 23rd.
