If you want to buy a house in Upstate New York with lots of land, check out Livingston Manor, a hamlet in Sullivan County that's about a two-and-a-half-hour drive from New York City.

Many of the houses on the market here are located on several acres of land—even as much as 17-plus acres. You can also get a deal compared to other towns in the Catskills: The median listing price is $409,000, according to Realtor.com. Log cabins appear to be popular here and you can find renovated farmhouses, fixer uppers, and lots of land to build a house.

There’s also The Catskill Project, a 90-acre development with custom-built houses with Passive House features. It’s also the first carbon-neutral community in the Catskills. A three bedroom, three bath planned in the community is listed for $1,335,000.

Looking for things to do here? Catskill Art Space, a nonprofit art center with James Turrell art installations recently opened. You’ll also find a few locally owned stores and restaurants like Upward Brewing Company, Sunshine Colony, and The Kaatskeller.
