Rhinebeck, New York, where multi-million dollar estates break sales records and actors Paul Rudd and Jeffrey Dean Morgan own a candy shop, has long been one of my favorite places to visit because it’s got just about everything you’d want from an upstate town: A walkable downtown area, Beekman Arms (the oldest inn in the U.S.), and waterfront parks.

There’s also a lot going on in the popular Hudson Valley town. The Dutchess County Fairgrounds hosted the annual Sheep & Wool Festival in October (It was covered by Vogue) the members-only club Soho House is opening an outpost here soon, and the Sinterklaas Festival happens in December.

It’s also a good place to buy a vacation house as an investment because the town recently decided against limiting short-term rentals like Airbnbs. When it comes to buying a house here, the median sales price is $489,500, according to Realtor.com. Right now there are about 40 houses on the market ranging from $99,000 to just under $3,000,000.
