The holiday season is upon us, bringing an opportunity to thank the people who helped you throughout the year. If you live in a New York City apartment building, that means doling out tips for building staff, but if you’re unfamiliar with the custom, it can be hard to know how much to do.

Brick Underground’s Tipping Guide is updated every year and covers pretty much all you could want to know about the practice. This year the numbers will look a bit bigger to account for inflation, which impacted the price of just about everything and hurt people living paycheck to paycheck the most.

Want to see if your tips for 2023 are in line with your neighbors? You can share (anonymously of course) how much you plan to tip and see what other New Yorkers intend to do via Brick's two-click tipping poll.

Thanks for participating and happy holidays!
