A housing lottery opens for 145 apartments near the Astoria waterfront

NYC Housing Lottery

Applications are open through the affordable housing lottery for 145 newly constructed apartments at Halletts Point 7 at 3-24 27th Ave. in Astoria. Rents start at $665 a month for a studio. Eligible applicants for this lottery must earn from $25,372 to $86,460, depending on the size of your household. 

There are 32 two-bedroom apartments available for renters with incomes of $38,058 to $57,640, depending on the number of people in the household. The rent for these apartments is $1,000.

The stabilized apartments are studios, one, and two bedrooms set aside for people earning from 40 to 60 percent of the area median income (AMI). This varies depending on how many people you live with. Currently the AMI for New York City is $106,800 for a two-person household. 

The apartments have large windows, with energy efficient light fixtures and appliances. Building amenities includes a tenant lounge, community room, gym, bike storage and laundry room.

For public transportation, the bus and ferry are your best options. The closest subway station is some distance—at 30th Avenue, where you can catch the N and W trains. 

The building is close to the Astoria waterfront and it has bike storage lockers and a shared laundry room. 

The developers have set aside 50 percent of the affordable apartments for NYCHA residents as well as 50 percent to those who live in the community. There is also a 5 percent preference for NYC employees. A small percentage of apartments will be allocated to applicants with mobility, vision, and hearing needs. 

Applications must be submitted online or postmarked no later than November 21st.
