If you’re thinking of relocating your family to a nearby suburb, you might want to check out Paramus, New Jersey, a Bergen County suburb just 17 miles from Manhattan with well-rated public schools, lower property taxes, and several popular shopping destinations.

There’s no walkable downtown area, but there are large malls like Garden State Plaza and Paramus Park plus several other shopping centers. For a bite, you can go to local spots like The Fireplace and Biagio’s, and chains like The Capital Grille, Bonefish, and Ruth’s Chris if that’s your thing. You’ll also find IKEA, plus several parks, country clubs, and golf courses around town.

When it comes to real estate, prices are lower than many other NYC suburbs: The median sales price is $690,000 according to Realtor.com. Right now, there are townhouses, large Colonials, and new construction on the market. Most houses have large yards, finished basements, and garages.

If you’re going to commute to the city for work or school, it’s about a 30- to 40-minute drive to Manhattan. You can also take a New Jersey Transit bus, which gets you to the city in less than an hour.
