A second round of applications opened up this week for spots in the Greenpoint Landing development, this time in a new building at 33 Eagle Street with a mix of studios, one-bedrooms, and two-bedrooms renting for as little as $494/month. (Another building at 21 Commercial Street opened applications back in December.)
There will be 97 affordable apartments in total, and the buildling will feature an on-site super, laundry room, bike room, fitness center, and landscaped courtyard. Once finished, the Greenpoint Landing project will include 5,500 apartments spread across 10 buildings, and a new K through 8 school, as YIMBY has reported. There's been contention around the project since its outset over concerns that the new buildings will re-shape the neighborhood in the same overpriced manner as the towers on the Williamsburg waterfront, and that their location in a flood zone and near a superfund site could pose health and safety risks.
Apartment prices range from $494/month for studios to $2,216 for two-bedrooms for renters with annual household incomes between $18,275 and $112,190, depending on apartment and family size. Preference for half of the apartments will go to current residents of Brooklyn's Community Board One, and applications are due by May 16th.
