Applications are open for 180 new discounted apartments in the West Farms area of the Bronx through the city housing lottery.

The apartments are in two buildings constructed as part of a 10-building mixed-income complex in a recently rezoned industrial area just north and south of the Cross-Bronx Expressway.

The units, studios, and one-, two-, and three-bedrooms, are reserved for people in several income brackets, from one-person households making $15,532 to six-person households making $132,840. Rents for the apartments start at $396 for a one bedroom, for a single person making $15,532-$20,040.

Rent for apartments on the top end of the range look to be about in line with market rates—the median rent for the 14 apartments currently listed through Zillow is $1,941.

The buildings, back to back at 1939 West Farms Rd. and 1926 Longfellow Ave., are 45 minutes from Midtown via the 2 and 5 trains a block away at West Farms Square-East Tremont Avenue. The same trip is about an hour on the BxM10 express bus, which stops a half mile away.

If you're interested and think you might qualify for one of these buildings, you can create a profile and apply online via NYC Housing Connect. Don't apply more than once, or you could be disqualified.
