If you’re looking to rent an apartment with a balcony to take advantage of some outdoor space this summer, you have a lot of options: There are currently 870 apartments with balconies across the five boroughs listed for $3,000 or less on StreetEasy.

Having your own balcony offers multiple perks: You get a low-maintenance outdoor space where you can work or study from home and you can host al fresco dinner parties—that’s if it’s big enough, of course. You can also bring more natural light and fresh air into your space.

But there are also things you should consider before signing a lease for an apartment with a balcony: Your building will have rules on things like smoking, grilling, and throwing parties. Typically rules for noise in a building, like quiet hours, also apply to outdoor spaces. And you should check which direction it faces and how big it is to make sure it’s worth it.

So, if you’re looking for a rental with a balcony, check out these five one bedrooms in Park Slope, Lenox Hill, Astoria, Long Island City, and Central Harlem.
