If you want to rent an apartment with private outdoor space in New York City, you can expect to pay a premium. These apartments are in high demand, especially during the spring and summer months when renters want a place to enjoy the outdoors.

One way to beat the competition is not to be focused on a specific neighborhood. There are currently 2,987 apartments with private outdoor space listed on StreetEasy. You can find apartments with private balconies, terraces, decks, and even backyards, depending on your budget.

Keep in mind that you will have more to consider than just sunset happy hours and al fresco dinner parties. Some buildings have strict rules for these spaces, like quiet hours and bans on smoking. And not all outdoor spaces are the same so be sure to check how big the space is and how much sunlight it gets.
