If you’re looking for a deal on a rental apartment in Manhattan, you might want to consider a studio. These apartments are seeing less demand these days because many renters want a separate room for working from home.

Studios also saw a median rent of $2,600 last month, much lower than the borough’s median rent of $3,630, according to the Elliman Report. And you have plenty of options: There are currently 478 studios for less than the borough’s median rental price listed on StreetEasy.

Concerned about living in a small space with an open layout? Search for studios with sleeping alcoves, lofts, dressing areas, and separate kitchens. These layouts make living in studio apartments much easier, especially if you work from home. You can also invest in a Murphy bed and multi-use furniture to maximize your layout.
