If you have been priced out of your current apartment because of a rent hike and need to find a more reasonably priced place, your best bet is to focus your search on neighborhoods where rents are lower—and there’s less competition.

What are these neighborhoods? Places like Inwood, Bath Beach, and Jackson Heights, according to a new survey by SERHANT, which pinpointed the 10 most affordable neighborhoods in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens based on the median rent increase year over year.

Another advantage to apartment hunting in these areas: There are more listings—so you’ll have more options. For example, Manhattan’s rental inventory is down 61 percent year over year, but in neighborhoods like Inwood, it’s down just 9 percent. And you can find some concessions like landlord-paid broker fees, cutting your costs a bit more.

So if you’re looking for a cheaper apartment in NYC, check out these rentals for less than $2,000 a month in Bay Ridge, Midwood, East Harlem, Inwood, and Kew Gardens.
