Planning a winter move? If so, central heat might be on top of your rental apartment wish list. This amenity allows you to control the temperature of your place—and not have to deal with a noisy radiator.

You can find apartments with central heating (and air) in new developments and renovated places—but you have to be careful when searching for this amenity. That’s because central air doesn't necessarily mean central heating.

Many owners in New York opt to install central air—and keep their radiators for heat—because it’s cheaper, experts have told Brick. To make sure an apartment also has central heating, check to see if it has a full HVAC system with heating, or mini-splits, which both cool and heat. To find the right listings, use search terms like “central heat” or “HVAC system.” You can even find some apartments with their own HVAC system, so you won’t share air with your neighbors.

To help with your apartment search, here are five rentals with central heat for less than $3,000 a month in East New York, Washington Heights, Ditmars-Steinway, Hunters Point, and Bushwick.
