Last-Minute Getaway

Spend the weekend soaking in the hot tub at this rustic cabin in Woodstock

If you're worried this dismal mid-June drizzle won't clear up sufficiently for a full-fledged beach day this weekend, why not take things in the opposite direction, and book a last-minute weekend surrounded by greenery in this charming Woodstock cabin?

As of press time, the two-bedroom, two-bath home is still available for Friday and Saturday for $295/night, via VRBO, and looks just about ideal for a small family, group of friends, or pair of couples hoping for a peaceful weekend away. There's plenty of cozy common space, including a large living room with a TV that's set up with DirectTV and a ping pong table, depending on your mood:

There's also a spacious kitchen, and separate dining room:

There are pine walls and ceilings throughout, a wood-burning fireplace, and a gas woodstove in the main great room. Upstairs, you'll find two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and laundry facilities, including a master bedroom with a private second floor deck:

For outdoor space, there's a screened-in back porch that overlooks a scenic stone patio, which, in turn, is overlooked by a brand new hot tub that's just up a flight of stone steps:

The home is also a 100-yard walk from a nearby mountain stream, meaning that before you kick back in the hot tub, you can get a bit of exercise with a quiet nature walk. For city-dwellers in search of a quick respite from city noise, grime, and subway delays, this strikes us as a slam dunk.
