Squeaky floors, too-much heat and neighborly nuisances... these are just a few things these seven New Yorkers would change about their living situations, including:
There's no such thing as a dream apartment in New York City (at least if you have any sort of budget). These six New Yorkers told us what they long for in their own apartments.. for many, it was hard to pick just one thing.
Just when you thought NYC apartments couldn't get any smaller, the city up and announces a pilot program which will see the construction of a building full of micro-units, ranging from 250-370 square feet. (Note, if the pilot project is a success, expect many more of these types of places hitting the market--at well under market rates.)
It's safe to say that the industrial-chic DUMBO is just as cool as (or cooler than) any neighborhood in Manhattan, and this well-designed $5,150 two-bedroom at 25 Washington Street is proof.
Pros: The design inside the apartment is minimalist, modern and chic. The kitchen has stone countertops and there are exposed wood beams throughout. The century-old building has a 2,500-square-foot rooftop with amazing views, but check out that view from the living room!
Sure, it's in a walk-up building, but assuming that doesn't bother you, we think this $2,450 one-bedroom in Clinton -- 47th and Eighth to be exact -- is kind of charming.
Dreaming of the romantic townhouse lifestyle? This $4,350 full floor two-bedroom at 21 East 92nd Street might be just right.
Pros: This 900-square-foot apartment has a washer-dryer, all stainless and marble kitchen, a large outdoor deck and two fireplaces. The block -- between Fifth and Madison is the stuff Upper East Side dreams are made of. A free month of rent is being offered on a two-year lease.
