The West Village, with its small streets, relatively quieter pace and iconic destinations, like the High Line, the Whitney Museum of American Art, White Horse Tavern, Stonewall Inn, and Hudson River Park, is a highly desirable neighborhood to live in.

But it's an expensive place to live in, even if you are willing to go very small. The median rent for a studio in the West Village is a whopping $2,812 a month, according to StreetEasy. But lots of people are willing to pay that price (and more) in order to live in the heart of this sought-after locale—even if that means living in a place like this tiny apartment with a twin-sized Murphy bed, not that installing a Murphy bed to save room is a bad idea.

If you can’t stretch your budget very far, but still desperately want to live in the neighborhood, here are five apartments that you can rent for under $2,500 a month. But you might have to sacrifice something in addition to space. For instance, two of the studios don’t have stoves. They have hot plates instead.

The apartment doesn’t have a stove, but it does have a hot plate, a conventional microwave, and a half-size fridge. It’s located in a rental building with laundry in the basement. The price is based on an 18-month lease. There’s no broker’s fee.
