Finding a rental apartment in New York City is more expensive and challenging in today’s competitive market. And if you have your heart set on living in a specific neighborhood, you probably won’t have a lot of options, especially when you have to stick to a budget.

One way to find an apartment in your price range is to broaden your search geographically. If you don’t have to live in a specific neighborhood, you can find apartments that are more affordable, especially in areas farther from Manhattan.

Brick Underground recently partnered with Renthop to pinpoint the three most affordable neighborhoods in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens for our annual guide. The neighborhoods are based on the median rent for one-bedroom apartments.
