A Carroll Gardens duplex with a rare-for-NYC amenity: plenty of storage space

Last week, we wrote about how the city wants to place caps on the construction of self-storage facilities, which could potentially put New Yorkers in a tight spot when it comes to stashing their stuff. You wouldn't have that problem in this two-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bath rental, though: The Carroll Gardens duplex comes with ample room to spread out, thanks to a huge storage area in the basement. The 11-foot ceilings and big backyard contribute to the expansive feel. The unit is listed by Compass for $4,995 per month, a bit high for the neighborhood, but given the square footage, the price isn't unreasonable.

The property's history—it was built in 1900—is evident in prewar details like the exposed brick and crown moldings in the living room (see main image). French doors open onto a separate dining area brightened by two large windows. At the opposite end of this level, you'll find a bright, updated kitchen with a breakfast nook.

On the lower level, the two bedrooms, each with plentiful closet space, are located at opposite ends of the apartment, separated by a shared bathroom. (There's an additional half bath off the living area.)

With summer looming, the backyard looks like a great spot to entertain, with plenty of seating room as well as greenspace for gardening.

And along with all that storage in the basement, you'll find an in-unit washer and dryer. Plus, you'll be close to both the Carroll Street and Bergen Street stops, making this a convenient pick all around, something of a rarity in NYC.
