Transit Week

If you rent this three-bedroom beach house this summer, you can commute to work every day and still make it home for a swim

In honor of Transit Week, we've chosen an Escape Pick of the Week that's actually easy to get to via public transportation. The Long Island Rail Road takes you straight from Penn Station to Long Beach in an hour and the train is actually within walking distance of the beach. You could easily commute into the city every day this summer if you were so inclined, and spend warm summer nights and weekends by the beach without using up any vacation days. Take that, Hamptons!

While this contemporary three-bedroom, three-bath house is available to rent year-round for $4,000 a month, you can also opt to rent it month to month during the summer. If you want it for all of June, it'll cost $7,000; for July, $11,000; and for August through Labor Day, $12,000. (And if it's a warm September, you can nab it for $3,000 for the month).

The first floor has a large eat-in kitchen, a living room, dining room, pantry, and a large deck. The second floor has three bedrooms, including a master with a spa-style bathroom, laundry, and another deck.

We can think of worse places to spend the summer—namely in your hot, sticky New York City apartment.
