Roosevelt Island continues to perplex and intrigue New Yorkers—Is it part of Manhattan? What else is there?—even as its place in the city as a good option for apartment-hunters on the lookout for (relatively) affordable apartments grows. (It also made our list of 10 under-the-radar family-friendly neighborhoods to explore.) The best way to gather intel on Roosevelt Island is to hop on the tram—or, the subway (yes, there's a stop)—and check out open houses. Here, a sampling for this weekend.

555 Main Street, Apartment 804. A renovated two-bedroom, two-bath with river views in a building known as Island House. Asking price: $1.03 million. Open house: Sunday, July 17, 4 pm to 6 pm, by appointment only.

531 Main Street, Apartment 515. This duplex apartment is listed as a three-bedroom that's convertible to a four-bedroom, and has two-and-a-half baths and a terrace. Asking price: $1.425 million. Open house: Sunday, July 17, 12 noon to 2 pm.

531 Main Street, Apartment 213-214. Two apartments were put together to create this two-bedroom, two-bath in a co-op with a swimming pool, gym, and bike room. The listing on Streeteasy says it needs renovations (so it's unclear if the pic above is a rendering); check the link for pics of the actual apartment. Asking price: $1.65 million. Open house: Sunday, July 17, 3 pm to 4 pm.
