In L.A., the entrance to your house could be lined in cacti.

The path from New York to L.A. is a well-trodden one, invoked in the pages of the New York Times almost as often as the concept of some randomly chosen place being the "sixth borough" or the "next Brooklyn." Insane as it may seem to relocate to a smog-choked desert metropolis sure to run out of water one of these days, there are some compelling reasons why New Yorkers end up there. For example, in Los Angeles buying a place means plentiful sunshine (sans humidity), fruit-tree lined streets, and sometimes even a yard for the price of a New York City apartment.

This week's StreetEasy report found that the median resale price in Brooklyn in the third quarter of this year was $754,094, a modest increase over last year. With the Dodgers in the World Series and winter on our minds, we decided to find out what we could get in La La Land for a similar figure.

Listed at $759,000.

1510 Donaldson St. This three-bedroom, two-bath house is in Echo Park near Dodger Stadium. There's plenty of outdoor space for entertaining, fruit trees, a one-car garage, and a new (as of six years ago) roof. $748,000.
