This week we're turning out attention to a Park Slope one-bedroom that's on the small side. It's a charming apartment in a brownstone apartment but has just about enough space for one person (and no dogs).
This $479,000 Chelsea studio feels like the perfect pied-a-terre to us (and luckily the co-op board allows them). Located in a pre-war, Emery Roth-designed building at 300 West 23rd Street, between Eighth and Ninth avenues, it's smack in the middle of Chelsea. You'll undoubtedly want to take advantage of all the cool restaurant and bars in the area, and getting ready for a night out on the town will be that much more enjoyable thanks to a dressing room alcove (!).
To qualify for a mortgage, you have to prove to the lender that you're good at paying back debts — makes sense right?— and the proof is in your credit score. The problem, of course, is that for those who don't have a credit score, either because they choose not to use credit cards or they can't get them due to bankruptcy or foreclosure, getting a mortgage can be nearly impossible.
Smart home technology is becoming common enough that it's now the butt (quite literally) of Saturday Night Live jokes. Last weekend's show had a skit about a forward-thinking couple and their questionable innovations, including a toaster with eyes (googly ones for now) that can hover at eye-level and tell you how toasted your bread is and a smart couch that recognizes you by your backside. The sensor on that one is attached to a tube (also with googly eyes) that goes where the sun don't shine.
