If you’re ready for suburban life but don’t want to venture too far from New York City, you might want to consider Ridgewood, New Jersey. It’s just a 45-minute drive from the city and you can get a lot of space for your money.

The current median sales price in the area is $785,700, according to Zillow. You can find three- and four-bedroom colonials, farmhouses, and Tudors around that price, many of which have large backyards, garages, and home offices—all especially in demand in the Covid era.

Ridgewood has more to offer than affordable, spacious houses. To get some nature, you can visit Graydon Park and Saddle River County Park, where you’ll find a dog park. There’s a downtown area with locally-owned stores and restaurants like Park West Tavern, Roots Steakhouse, and Sook Pastry. There’s a Whole Foods and Stop & Shop in the area. The public school system checks out too, with an A+ rating from Niche. The New Jersey Transit stop in Ridgewood is about an hour from Penn Station.
