7 must-see NYC apartments you can rent right now for $5,000 - $16,500 a month

By Renthop  | March 11, 2015 - 3:23PM

From a triplex in a former Fort Greene church to the onetime West Village one-bedroom with an Underground Railroad backstory, rental search site RentHop features rentals that dare to be different (and won't have the same identical finishes you see in most buildings on the market). RentHop can also help you whittle down your options thanks to the HopScore (a ranking of listings by quality) assigned to each apartment, and you can use their no-fee filter to skip the broker's fee. Check them out—but don't delay. These eye-catching deals will disappear before you know it.

1. Three-bedroom, 3-bath at Adelphi & Willoughby in Fort Greene, $10,500/month

You don’t have to be at all spiritual to be inspired by this unique, 2,000+ square-foot  Fort Greene duplex three-bedroom. Carved out of a former church built in the late 1800s, it seamlessly blends historic architectural details like stained glass windows, exposed brick and soaring ceilings with every modern must-have from stainless steel appliances to central heat and A/C and bathrooms galore. And while the building offers shared outdoor space, it’s a mere two blocks from lovely Fort Greene Park. Hallelujah!

2.  Two-bedroom, 2.5-bath at 23 East 67th Street, PH on the Upper East Side, $16,500/month

If natural light with a side order of sky is what you crave, this Upper East Side penthouse duplex may be for you. Built atop a pre-war building down the block from Central Park, this brand new two-bedroom, two and a half-bath aerie features a private keyed elevator entry, Italian finishes and its own outdoor terrace. Plus, it’s got all wall of windows letting the sunshine in, which means you’re daily does of Vitamin D will be well taken care of.

3. Two-bedroom, 1-bath at 219 Eckford Street, 4A  in Greenpoint, $3,750/month

Is it possible to get out of the house without actually leaving home? It is when home is a duplex condo with two private outdoor spaces—a roof deck AND a separate balcony—offering panoramic views of Manhattan and Brooklyn. The inside of this two-bedroom, one-bath is just as good, with a renovated kitchen (done up with stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, a tiled backsplash and plenty of cabinets), central heat and A/C and—wait for it—an in-unit washer/dryer.

4. One-bedroom, 1-bath at 45 Grove Street, 2D in the West Village, $8,000/month

If you’ve always longed to live in a landmark, this is your chance. This apartment at 45 Grove Street was once home to American writer Hart Crane. Lincoln assassin, John Wilkes Booth, lived in the building for a time and it was a stop on the Underground Railroad, too. Best of all, the apartment retains much of its historic charm—soaring ceilings, oversized window with custom-wood window treatments, elaborate fireplace and numerous chandeliers—without scrimping on any of today’s modern comforts (among them, an open floorplan, a kitchen with stainless steel appliances and a marble bathroom).

5. One-bedroom, 1-bath at 453 West 19th Street, 6B in Chelsea, $5,000/month

Just because you’re not staying for long doesn’t mean you need to compromise on style. Located in a boutique elevator building with just two apartments per floor, this six month furnished, one-bedroom rental checks a lot of the must-have boxes on any chic NYC home scale: windowed solarium, wood burning fireplace, high-tech entertainment system, open kitchen with stainless steel appliances, custom closets, Miele washer/dryer…and the list goes on.

6. Three-bedroom, 2.5-bath at 63 West 83rd Street on the Upper West Side, $10,000/month

Why move to the suburbs when you can have your own three-story home, with a private backyard, right here in the city? This triplex apartment is spread out over the lower two and half floors of a townhouse, including the parlor level, which features a street-facing dining room and a living room with a wood-burning fireplace that overlooks the leafy garden. Above and below it are three-bedrooms, plus two smaller multi-use spaces (think office, nursery, playroom, study…you get the picture) that will easily satisfy the urge for extra elbowroom.

7. Three-bedroom, 2-bath on 8th Street  in Gowanus, $6,457/month

With custom kitchens filled with Italian cabinetry and stainless steel appliances by Liebherr, Bosch and Electrolux, marble bathrooms with soaking tubs and glass enclosed showers, plus several outdoor spaces to take advantage of, not to mention a private gym, this new luxury rental at the trendy crossroad of Park Slope and Gowanus had us at hello. The fact that, for a limited time, it’s one-month free rent or no fee, is just the icing on the cake.
