Lots of New Yorkers expect to continue to work from home or work only a couple of days a week in Manhattan in the future. If you’re not going to the office every day, you might be willing to tolerate a longer commute in exchange for a larger and cheaper apartment. Plus, some far-flung NYC neighborhoods have suburban-style perks.

In these quieter neighborhoods, which don’t feel like NYC, you can be close to nature, get waterfront views, or experience a small-town vibe. Some areas have a Long Island Railroad or Metro North stop for a quick commute to Manhattan or an escape from the city.
