Housing lottery launches for 20 rent-stabilized units in Downtown Brooklyn

Housing lottery applications are open for 20 rent-stabilized apartments at a new development in Downtown Brooklyn. Households that earn $75,669 to $140,000 are eligible to apply, depending on the number of people you live with. Rents start at $2,063 for a studio.

The elevator building at 165 Willoughby St. has a pool, dog park, gym, indoor rock climbing wall, and outdoor terrace. Two dogs weighing up to 60 pounds are allowed, depending on the breed. Each unit has a dishwasher and washer and dryer. 

Across the street from a Trader Joe’s and a few blocks away from Fort Greene Park, the building developed by The Jay Group and designed by J Frankl Architects is a short walk from the Dekalb Avenue and Jay St-MetroTech subway stations. 

The apartments are set aside for New Yorkers earning 80 percent of the area median income (AMI)—a metric that depends on how many people you live with. Currently the AMI for New York City is $129,600 for a two-person household. The apartments available include studios as well as two-bedroom apartments. 

There are 15 one-bedroom apartments available for households earning from $97,235 to $140,000. The rent for these apartments is $2,616.

The developers have set aside 20 percent of the rent-stabilized apartments for applicants who already live in the area. Another 10 percent of the apartments will be preferentially given to NYC employees or veterans. A small percentage of the apartments are also set aside for residents with mobility, vision, and hearing needs. 

Applications must be submitted online or postmarked no later than June 29th.
