Have fantasies of living the artist life in a Red Hook townhouse full of character? (And have a benefactor to foot the bill?) Check out the ruggedly charming 124 Pioneer St., a three bedroom, two bath listed for $1,500,000.

Built in 1899, the townhouse includes lots of raw elements such as exposed brick, exposed beams, and wide, hardwood plank floors. The listing says it was designed by an artist—and it definitely has character that could inspire a creative type.

The parlor floor has an open layout, with bonus features such as the original window shutters, a wood-burning fireplace, and even a swing. A private wood terrace can be accessed from this level as well.

A modern floating staircase leads to the second floor, which has two bedrooms; the full bath on this level is located inside the master. (Another space worthy of a Brooklyn lifestyle photo shoot, but what's up with that tub's legs? From a practical standpoint, we'd also be concerned with water damage.)

On the lower level is a large rec room, a newly-renovated kitchen with stainless steel appliances, and there's a full bath and laundry facilities on this floor. The level can be accessed from both the front and the rear of the building.

There is also a separate private garage on the property, which could be converted to a living space, but you'd need to change the certificate of occupancy to do that

The townhouse is on a cute, tree-lined street, close to all the shopping and eating Red Hook has to offer, including Fairway and Ikea and small independent stores, restaurants, and cafes. The B61 bus is almost at the door, and you can catch the ferry at the Red Hook stop a few blocks away. Convenient, but also a sign of how close the water is; this building, and much of Red Hook were in the Hurricane Sandy Inundation Zone, so you're legally required to get flood insurance if you want to live here.
