While some New Yorkers have been re-thinking their desire for fully open-plan apartments in recent years, there's still quite a bit to be said for the classic, converted loft, complete with high ceilings, large windows, and exposed brick as far as the eye can see. And if that's the aesthetic you're after, we've found a Soho penthouse loft, located in a prewar building at 108 Wooster Street, that might fit the bill.
The three-bedroom, three-bathroom condop—read our primer for what exactly that is—has been recently renovated to include an ever-trendy open chef's kitchen, and has other modern perks you'd expect from a high-end rental, including a dishwasher, washer and dryer, central air, and walk-in closets. (A bare bones artist's garret with space heaters and single lightbub hanging from the ceiling, this isn't.)
The apartment, which is asking $15,950/month through Compass, looks to be somewhat lacking in natural light, though there is extensive track lighting installed throughout the living room and kitchen area. (We definitely approve of the skylight in the bathroom, pictured below.) The listing also notes a private 500-square-foot roof deck (sadly, not pictured, and neither are the bedrooms), as well as private basement storage. Check out that sliding fire door, a classic original loft feature if ever there was.
The listing photos seem to leave quite a bit to the imagination, so this apartment is one best scoped out in person. (Granted, you should always scope out new digs in person, if you can help it, but that's particularly true when the photos are lacking.) But based on what we do know, what do you think—if you had nearly $16,000/month to throw around on rent, would this Soho setup make the cut?
