If it's a doorman you're after, the Upper East Side will be your best bet, but if you're hoping to buy in a building with an accepting pooch policy, it's worth heading downtown, according to a report released today by StreetEasy that zeroes in on where in Manhattan you're most likely to find popular building amenities, like doormen, elevators and laundry.
In general, if you're looking in an area with lots of new development—the Financial District, Midtown, Battery Park City—you're more likely to see dishwashers and washer/dryers, while the Upper East Side is still strong on the classics, like doormen and elevators, says the report, which looked at for-sale listings from August 2013 to September 2014:
Unsurprisingly, condos—which are often in newer buildings with looser rules—were more likely to have dishwashers and welcoming pet policies than their co-op counterparts, StreetEasy points out.
In Central Harlem, 31 percent of apartments for sale included a dishwasher, and 40 percent had washer/dryers, significantly beating out pricier areas like Tribeca, Soho, and the West Village, StreetEasy notes. And if you want a building where you can wash all your possessions at the touch of a button, and have a friendly doorman usher you and your dog into the elevator? Looks like Midtown is your best bet.
