Housing lottery launches for 198 apartments in the Bronx

  • New Yorkers who earn $18,515 to $175,100 are eligible to apply to live in the 19-story building
  • The new development has one-bedroom apartments available for as low as $591 per month

NYC Housing Connect

Housing lottery applications are open for 198 rent-stabilized apartments at a new development in the West Concourse neighborhood of the Bronx. New Yorkers who earn $18,515 to $175,100 are eligible to apply, depending on the size of their household. Rents start at $465 for a studio.

The building at 1160 River Ave. has a shared laundry room, recreation room, an outdoor deck, and an elevator. It’s located near the 167th Street subway station where you can catch the B and D lines.

Designed by Aufgang Architects, the building between East 167th and McClellan streets will hold 245 units total, plus community space and offices on the second floor, according to Department of Buildings data.

The apartments are set aside for New Yorkers earning from 30 percent to 100 percent of the area median income (AMI)—a metric that depends on how many people you live with. Currently the AMI for New York City is $113,000 for a two-person household. The apartments available include studios as well as one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. 

There are 38 one-bedroom apartments available for households earning from $57,498 to $88,970, depending on the size of the group. The rent for these apartments is set at $1,592. 

The developers have set aside 50 percent of the rent-stabilized apartments for applicants who already live in the area. Another 5 percent of the apartments will be preferentially given to NYC employees, and a small percentage of the apartments are also set aside for residents with mobility, vision, and hearing needs. 

Applications must be submitted online or postmarked no later than Feb. 22nd.
