“If you need a temporary place to live, it’s not so easy in New York City,” Spindel said, pointing to intense competition and complex housing regulations. Apartments rented out for less than 30 days in residential buildings are illegal in New York City. In nearby Jersey City, where laws are less restrictive, the minimum stay is 5 days.

“No one wants a surprise when they are coming into town late at night and can’t get into a lock box to get their key, or the doorman won’t let them up because it’s not a building-approved rental,” says Spindel. “We work hand-in-hand with landlords and property management companies and are valued tenants within their buildings. Our guests are treated with the same care and respect as year-long lease holders.”
