Summer's here...it's a great time to get outside and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. Of course, you will be spending a lot of time at home these days, so the best place to be is on your own private balcony or terrace.

Don't have an outdoor space? Now is a good time to hit the market and upgrade your living situation.

Check out these five Manhattan homes for rent that offer coveted private outdoor space to soak up the sun.

555 West 59th St., #TH3C, Midtown

This expansive three-bedroom, three-bath townhouse is an outdoor oasis perched high above Midtown Manhattan. The home faces south, with windows that go from the floor to the 10-foot-ceilings, offering views of the city and a private 564-square-foot terrace, which is decked out with a sound system. It's the perfect place to entertain or relax. Inside, the townhouse has been superbly maintained and has a new kitchen custom made in Italy, with features like Royal Danby marble countertops, 400 Series Gaggenau appliances (including a dual-temperature wine cooler), and a Combi convection oven. The French limestone master bathroom has a Zuma soaking tub, Dornbracht fixtures and accessories, a rain shower, and a custom double vanity in walnut with a marble countertop imported from Spain. The master suite has three large, custom closets and floor-to-ceiling windows. There's custom lighting throughout the home.

In addition to the private terrace, building amenities include a sky-lit, 55-foot lap pool, whirlpool, kiddie pool, massage and treatment room, sauna, and a garden-facing fitness club with all the latest equipment. Step outside into a massive, private landscaped outdoor space sprawling over 12,000 square feet, with a lawn, sundeck, courtyard, and outdoor playground. It is asking $18,000 a month.

25 West 13th St., #1MS, Greenwich Village

This spacious alcove studio has a 200-square-foot deck—and if you want even more outdoor space, Washington Square Park is right around the corner, thanks to this apartment's prime location on a beautiful block in the heart of the Village. The interiors are flooded with light from the large, north-facing windows looking over the garden. The kitchen is outfitted with stainless steel appliances, and the bathroom has been renovated. The building is the Montparnasse, a classic seven-story co-op, with a 24-hour doorman, basement storage, laundry room, and live-in super. The apartment is asking $2,795 a month.

Full city view? Check. Full river view? Also check. This expansive, high-floor, corner one-bedroom offers views and light for days, with two private balconies and a nearly 80-square-foot solarium. An enormous great room is decked out with a gas fireplace, a kitchen/dining area, and views of the iconic 59th Street Bridge and the Manhattan skyline. The windowed chef's kitchen has stone countertops, designer cabinetry, and top-of-the-line stainless steel appliances, and the master bedroom has white lacquered built-in cabinets, ample closet space and a separate solarium, which can be used as a home office, and which leads to your own private balcony. The master bathroom has a marble soaking tub and a marble-walled shower, while the powder room offers privacy for your guests. There's also an in-unit washer and dryer, a large coat closet, and central AC.

The building doesn't skimp on amenities: There's a full-time doorman and concierge, a large fitness center, outdoor yoga and Pilates spaces, a large garden terrace, a private dog park, laundry and storage rooms. It's a short stroll to Central Park and all of Lenox Hill's shopping, dining, and entertainment options. The rent is $6,900 a month.

54 East 83rd St., #1B, Upper East Side

Why risk eating outdoors at a restaurant when you can dine al fresco at this 19th-century townhouse? Located on a lovely, tree-lined block just minutes from Central Park and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, this well-maintained, oversized one-bedroom has a large outdoor space where you can host in a socially distant manner, or which you can just enjoy yourself (with your dog, if you'd like—canine friends are allowed on a case-by-case basis).

Inside, there's a renovated kitchen with a dishwasher, two large California closets, original floors that have been restored to their original luster, new wiring, and exposed brick walls. The prewar building has super and porter service, a laundry room, and bike storage for an additional fee. The asking rent is $4,000 a month, with no broker fee.

234 West 148th Street, #4A

234 West 148th St., #4A, Harlem

This bright and airy two-bedroom, two-bath condo is located on one of Harlem's most beautiful and sought-after blocks, making it the perfect home for those who like to get out and explore the neighborhood. One block away is Jackie Robinson Park, which has a large outdoor pool, gym, and playground. The apartment has environmentally friendly bamboo floors, an open kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances, including a stainless steel dishwasher and washer/dryer combo, and a private balcony to enjoy for your morning coffee and those Manhattan sunsets. Rent is $3,400 a month.
