Small Wonder

This surprisingly spacious West Village studio might make you change your stance on Murphy beds

Most apartments in historic areas like the West Village tend to be long on charm, but short on actual living space. Not so with this studio on West Houston near 6th Avenue: The $525,000 co-op has a generous living room (with ample natural light), a separate galley kitchen, room for a small dining table, and sleeping space that can be turned into more guest seating thanks to a Murphy bed.

The built-in Murphy bed also includes shelving and cabinets, adding extra storage to the space:

The renovated kitchen includes new appliances and sleek wooden cabinets that echo the hardwood floors elsewhere in the apartment, while the bathroom is located next to a separate alcove dressing area, as well as the apartment's two closets.

The apartment has relatively low monthlies, with a $576/month maintenance; the building has extras including a roof deck, bike room, and as befits this week's "transit" theme, an in-house parking garage. Co-purchasing, parents gifting to children, sublets, and pied-a-terres are allowed, and while dogs are a no-go, the building does allow cats. (Notice the subtle cat tree currently against the window in the living room.)

Consider this the rare studio that will give you and your feline friend room to roam.
