Q.  I live in a co-op where the residents tend to be either senior citizens or young families. Noise complaints about children have been a recurring theme around here for awhile, and a lot of the parents are feeling as fed up as the older folks about all the complaints.

This home-office-lite solution from OfficeMax probably won’t become a family heirloom, but it’s svelte enough to keep out of your hair while performing its deskly function.  

Also, it’s really, really cheap: Since the NY Times wrote about it this summer, the price of the red-and-espresso desk, hutch, and file-cabinet stool/footrest has dropped from $150 to $130, including free shipping when ordered online.   Assembly required.

The New York Times published an autumn check-up on the local real estate market this weekend, finding that while inventory has stabilized, asking prices are down 24% since a year ago. 

But what's good for buyers may spell more bad news for boards, if this year's pitchfork-packed annual meetings were any guide.
