Are you looking for a New York City rental apartment in a pet-friendly building? You have more options these days because some landlords relaxed their pet policies during the pandemic.

But you might pay a premium for an apartment fit for you and your four-legged family members. That’s because many buildings that welcome pets also have luxe amenities or are in desirable areas, which means the rents there are higher. However, you can find rentals that welcome pets across the city at a range of price points—if you are flexible about where you're willing to live. Case in point: There are currently 7,656 pet-friendly rentals on StreetEasy.

Did you find a place that’s says it doesn't allow pets? You can try to convince the owner to let you have a pet. Share your pet’s health and training records to win them over. They are most likely worried about damage to the apartment—something they can no longer offset by having you pay a pet deposit.

To help with your apartment search, here are five pet-friendly rentals under $3,000 a month in Mott Haven, Astoria, East Flatbush, Hamilton Heights, and the Upper West Side.
