Sometimes, when applications open for new units of affordable housing, we find ourselves raising our eyebrows at what the city deems "affordable." But in the case of this listing posted on NYC Housing Connect, for 87 apartments in a new development in the South Bronx neighborhood of Mott Haven, studios, one, two, and three-bedrooms are available to New Yorkers at a variety of income levels.

Pricing starts at $368 per month studios for renters earning 30 percent of the area median income (AMI), and goes up to three-bedrooms for $1,683 per month for those with incomes at 100 percent AMI. Click to enlarge below to see the full list of apartment sizes, prices, and income requirements:

The development will offer a number of amenities to tenants, including a bike room, a shared terrace, parking, and laundry facilities; there's also a live-in super, and pets are permitted. The location, too, is quite convenient, one block from the 6 train at the 3rd Avenue-138th Street station and a few blocks from the 4 and 5 trains at 138th Street-Grand Concourse. It's also a walkable distance from the Randall's Island Connector, meaning a huge green space will be at renters' fingertips.

As is usual with these lotteries, 50 percent of units will be set aside for those already living in the neighborhood, which in this case falls under Bronx Community Board 1. If you're interested and think you might qualify, you can create a profile and apply online via NYC Housing Connect, or request a paper application by mailing a self-addressed envelope to The Graham, 5925 Broadway, Bronx NY 10463. (Don't apply more than once, or you could wind up disqualified.)

Applications are due by July 17th.
