Now here's a good deal—if you can get it. There are currently 34 affordable apartments available at Watermark in Long Island City, a brand new rental building at 27-19 44th Drive, that range from $908 for a studio to $1,176 for a two-bedroom. You'll have to make between $33,018 and $57,240 to qualify, though, and you'll have to be one of the lucky applicants who's picked. Here's a breakdown:
Assuming you meet the requirements above and win the housing lottery, you'll be moving into a brand new building with video intercom and a live-in super, plus WiFi-enabled public spaces, including a gym, bike storage, garden, work lounge and conference room, "sky deck," and more. (Note: Additional fees apply to use most of these.) The building, at 27-19 44th Drive, is a 27-story mixed-use development with 168 total apartments, most of which are "micro apartments." For more, read here.
As usual with this type of development, preference for half of the apartments will be given to current neighborhood residents, which in this case means residents of Queens Community Board 2 (check here to see if you live within the boundaries). If you're interested and think you qualify, you can create a profile and apply online via NYC Housing Connect, or request a paper application by mailing a self-addressed envelope to Affordable Housing, Dept. 29, 1357 Broadway, Box 309, New York, NY 10018. (Don't send in multiple applications, or else you could wind up disqualified.)
Applications are due by June 14th.
Note: Brick Underground is in no way affiliated with New York City’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development or the Housing Development Corporation. If you are interested in applying to this or other affordable housing developments, please go to the NYC Housing Connect website for information and instructions.
