Prices for a two-bedroom condo drop dramatically when you cross the Hudson River from Manhattan to Jersey City, and you can get a lot more in amenities. Your commute may even be about the same length of time, even though you live out of state.
Consider the numbers: In Manhattan, the median price for a two-bedroom condo is $1,825,417, according to Douglas Elliman's 2018 fourth quarter sales market report. But that's a figure way out of reach for many people. If your budget is much lower, say in the $600,000 range, you'd be hard pressed to find any two bedrooms that aren't way Uptown—you'd have to look in neighborhoods like Washington Heights, about 40 minutes from Midtown by subway.
If you move to Jersey City, one of the fastest-growing destinations in the Garden State, your commute is also about 40 minutes to Midtown (on the PATH train), and you can expect to find lots of options in the $600,000 price range for a two-bedroom condo.
Popular nightspots include Zeppelin Hall, a European-style biergarten with over 100 European imports and U.S. craft beers, and Dullboy, a cocktail bar that features literary themes (the name pays homage to "The Shining"). Family-friendly destinations include the Liberty Science Center, with a 3D theater, aquariums, and the biggest planetarium in the Western hemisphere; and Liberty State Park, a 1,212-acre waterfront park that offers nature trails, kayaking, and more.
