For a townhouse buyer in search of both pedigree and modern convenience, it'd be hard to do much better than this freshly renovated Lenox Hill townhouse at 156 East 62nd Street. That is, provided you have $18.5 million dollars to spend.

The five-story, six-bedroom home has a sleek limestone facade, and opens up into an impressive entry foyer with a powder room and closet:

On this main level, the entryway leads into a spacious bar and lounge area for entertaining, which in turn opens opens to the home's south-facing back garden:

The circular main staircase, which was preserved and re-installed from the original home, leads up to the next main level and includes more space for hosting, in the form of a sleek (and enormous) marble kitchen, and a sunny dining room. For good measure, the kitchen has its own fireplace:

Upstairs you'll find the main living areas, including a master bedroom (with two changing areas and a master bath—note those spacious double sinks), living and play areas, and a raised roof deck with skyline views (not pictured):

Besides storage and a service entrance, the lower level includes extras like a gym and laundry room, which are increasingly standard in these types of properties. It also includes higher-end touches like a sizeable, glass-encased wine cellar and a cedar sauna and steam room—for all your re-toxing and detoxing needs:

For fans of the stage and screen, there's impressive film history here: Past residents include Beatrice Whitney Straight, the Academy Award and Tony-winning actress known for her roles in Network and Poltergeist. Artist Linda Frock Rohrbeck also once resided in the home.

The price tag is nobody's idea of a bargain, but with the city's townhouse market slowing down in recent months, it's possible you'll be able to do some negotiating.
