Not only is the apartment almost half the price of the other relatively inexpensive apartments on this list, but it is also no fee. The studio apartment at 304 East 28th Street and Second Avenue is listed at $1,600/month. The apartment has a separate kitchen and is on the second floor of a walk-up building. Pets are allowed, and there is a live-in super. The apartment is a trek from the closest subway and is right next door to the Queens-Midtown Tunnel, making the price seem, well, pricey.
