On Brownstoner, an apartment dweller with a non-working fireplace  is considering converting it to working status before the winter freeze. Hurdles: Child proofing, price and finding someone to do it.  While there is some disagreement regarding cost (estimates range from around $2,000-7,000), it seems Manny LaSalle is the go-to resource, and most feel a toddler is no reason not to proceed.  (Brownstoner)
