Well, your kids may not be fat because of the elevator, but it's sure not helping. Gothamist reports that 40% of New York City public school kids are overweight or obese but only 18% of parents of children between the ages of 6 to 12 believe it's true of their child. Something else that needs swapping? Television for exercise. "One-third of the children ... also may not get enough exercise, as parents say they watch TV or play video games three to four hours a day, and 11% of students didn't even get a full hour of exercise or play outside of school in the past week." Time to hit the stairwells, kiddos. (Gothamist, NYC.gov)
