To say 1883 Rte. 213 in Rifton, New York is unusual is an understatement. The stone church, built in 1876, has been converted into a multi-use space with "normal" house features including bedrooms, a kitchen, and a living room. Here is a peek into the "house," which is advertised as having 7,000 square feet of floor space, and listed at $799,000.

In the center of the second-floor work-space is what looks like an indoor fire pit, with a ventilation hood.

The home section of the church features a more typical fireplace, a dining area, and a staircase up to the work-space.

We like the country feel of the blue cabinets and wide plank floors.

The tile in the bathroom is a bit Southwestern and adds to the funky charm of the place.

The Wallkill River runs along the small yard, which has a stone barbecue pit.

The small town of Rifton is on the west side of the Hudson River, halfway between the college town New Paltz and Kingston, which with 23,000 people is the county seat of Ulster County. Each are about 10 minutes away. It's also about a two-hour drive from New York City. The area as a whole has lots of farms and activities for nature lovers.
