New York apartment hunters don't usually get everything on their wish list. So you would think it would be too much to ask to look for an apartment with prewar charm, a wood-burning fireplace, a roof deck, and a big bedroom. But apparently not.

This one-bedroom co-op, 159 Madison Ave., #4G in Midtown, offers all that, plus an entry foyer. It's listed for $588,000.

Located between 32nd and 33rd streets, the apartment has oak floors, 10-foot ceilings, French doors, and large windows facing south and west. The fireplace sort of looks like a TV (it's that silver box on the living room wall), but nevertheless, it's the real deal, according to the listing.

The bedroom is large enough to fit a king-size bed, and though the bathroom is nothing spectacular, nothing jumps out at us as particularly concerning either.

The kitchen has stainless-steel appliances, and custom wood and glass cabinetry.

The building has a 24-hour doorman, a live-in super, storage, bike storage, and on-floor laundry. Common charges are $1,697 a month.

The building is near Madison Square Park and upscale restaurants such as Upland and Hillstone. The rules allow co-purchasing, gifting, and pieds-à-terre.
