An affordable housing lottery opens for 199 apartments in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn

Applications are open for an affordable housing lottery for 199 newly constructed apartments at 1921 Atlantic Ave. in Brooklyn. Rents start at $375 a month for a studio. Eligible applicants for this lottery must earn from $16,218 to $132,400 depending on the size of the household. 

The stabilized apartments are studios, one, two, and three bedrooms set aside for households earning from 30 to 80 percent of the area median income (AMI). This varies depending on how many people you live with. Currently the AMI for New York City is $106,800 for a two-person household. 

The most expensive apartment is a three bedroom for between three and seven people where the household income is from $91,543 to $132,400. There are 13 apartments like this and the rent is $2,501. There are 30 one-bedroom apartments available with rents set at $1,816. The income requirements for these apartments range from $66,035 to $96,080. 

The building has a no-pet policy. There is a shared laundry room, a gym, and a rooftop terrace with views of Manhattan. Tenants pay for electricity and gas.

The Stuyvesant Heights building is close to Jackie Robinson and Weeksville playgrounds, and Fulton Park. It is 20 minutes from Barclays Center and the closest subway is Ralph Avenue for the A train. B25 and B47 buses are nearby. 

The developers have set aside 50 percent of the rent-stabilized apartments for those who live in the community. There is also a 5 percent preference for NYC employees. A small percentage of apartments will be allocated to applicants with mobility, vision, and hearing needs. 

Applications must be submitted online or postmarked no later than January 4th.
