If you want to feel like you have escaped the city, this one-bedroom apartment in a townhouse, 418 Burns St., #2, in Forest Hills Gardens may do the trick. Located in the U.S.’s first planned garden community, it’s surrounded by private, tree-lined streets, Tudor-style homes, parks, and gardens. 

Priced at $1,795 a month, it’s a bit lower than the neighborhood’s median for one-bedroom apartments, which is $2,000, according to the StreetEasy. There’s parking available, with a decal, on the private street. 

It’s worth noting that all of the streets and parks in Forest Hills Gardens are private—meaning that only residents and their guests are permitted to park on the streets or relax in the parks—as noted on signs around the neighborhood. There’s also no dogs, events, or barbecues permitted in the neighborhood’s four parks.

When looking at Forest Hills on a map, it may seem far from Manhattan, but there’s a Long Island Railroad station plus the E and F express trains, so you can get into Manhattan in just over 20 minutes. The M and R trains also stop at the Forest Hills station.
