Rental pick of the week

It's all about the private roof terrace in this super-luxe Chelsea rental

What kind of rental can command an $18,900 per month price tag? The owner of this four-bedroom, 3.5-bath duplex, listed by Douglas Elliman, is hoping that it's this kind. The penthouse apartment features expansive interiors with multiple exposures, but its highlight is the 1,367-square foot private roof terrace, which includes a covered area and offers Hudson River views. And if that's not enough outdoor space, the home is only a couple blocks from the High Line.

On the lower level, one enters via a foyer into the living and dining area, where a corner position and 11-foot ceilings mean plenty of light. The warm color palette continues in the open kitchen, equipped with the kind of high-end appliances you'd expect of this kind of luxury listing. Also on this floor are three of four bedrooms, and two-and-a-half baths.

On the top level, accessed by spiral staircase, the master suite is 30 feet by 17 feet, leaving ample room for an office area. It also includes a large closet and en-suite bath. The bedroom opens directly onto the roof terrace, where one can grill, lounge, and entertain while taking in city views to the north and west.

Though advertised as a loft, the apartment is in a building that was built over a century ago as a luxury rental complex, as the listing also notes.

The place comes with an in-unit washer and dryer and central air, and is wired for sound throughout. There's a full-time doorman in the building, and it's a half block from the 18th Street 1 station, and a little over three blocks from the A, C, E, L, 2, and 3 trains.
