Channel your inner Edith Wharton this weekend at this 1870s East Lake Victorian in Beacon, New York. The four-bedroom house sleeps six (two double beds and two twins in separate rooms) making its rate of $350/night positively affordable for a group getaway.

Draws include period furnishings throughout, a spacious porch for relaxing or enjoying a meal, a sitting room and dining room, claw foot tub, a surrounding acre of trees and gardens and a view of Mount Beacon. On the practical side, there's a fully-equipped kitchen, television and WiFi and a washer/dryer.

Is it a bit old-timey? Sure, but that's part of its charm. Where else can you retire to "The Rose Room," "The Blue Room", or the "secret" attic hideaway, "The Grotto"?

After you've recovered from the vapors, head out to Beacon's main street a stone's throw away for shopping, galleries and a dinner out. Additional area attractions include Dia:Beacon, Long Dock Park and its stunning views of the Hudson, hiking at Fishkill Ridge and the area flea market. And it's all accessible by public transportation, and takes about 75 minutes via Metro-North.
