A large ground floor space can be joined with the parlor level to make a duplex.

If you're in the market for a renovated townhouse in Bushwick with an in-law apartment or the potential for rental income, 1489 Putnam Ave. could be worth a look. Listed for $1.5 million, the house is 20 by 50 feet, and is located on a 20-foot by 100-foot lot, which translates to a roomy backyard.

The two-family building has been gut renovated, but retains many early details, such as wood floors, pocket doors, tin ceilings, crown moldings, and wood banisters. Both apartments have nine-and-a-half-foot ceilings.

The parlor-level apartment is a two bedroom, and has an office that can be used as a third bedroom.

There's a chef's kitchen with stainless steel appliances and an island, as well as bay windows elsewhere that provide nice light. The kitchen leads out to a deck and the backyard. The ground floor is currently being used as a common storage and rec room, but could be renovated to be part of the parlor floor apartment. (Note: the photos with furniture here are virtually staged, but that radiator is the real deal.)

The second-floor apartment is similarly configured and appointed, with an extra bedroom over the stairs, and no deck.

The building has a new boiler, water heater, electric, and plumbing, and is a five minute walk to the Myrtle-Wyckoff L and M stop. There's a supermarket a block away, and lots of shopping and eating options on Myrtle Avenue.
