There are a lot of two-family townhouses in Brooklyn, and buying a house with a rental unit or two is a good way to get some help paying the mortgage. But it is rare to see a two-family townhouse that comes with a five-bedroom rental. Especially one in nice enough shape to command a healthy rent.

That's one of the reasons you should take a look at 249 Monroe St. The two-family brownstone, located on the border of Clinton Hill and Bedford Stuyvesant, is listed for $2,150,000, and it's suggested the upper duplex rental could command $4,400 in rent.

Recently renovated, the townhouse has forced heating and cooling, lots of natural light, and new floors throughout.

The owner's three-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath duplex occupies the parlor and garden levels, and has a finished basement. An open living, dining and kitchen area features high ceilings and an ornamental fireplace.

The new kitchen has stone countertops, stainless steel appliances, and a door that opens to the staircase leading down to the large, enclosed backyard.

The finished basement provides ample storage space.

The duplex rental is also renovated with a new kitchen and baths, and new floors.

Three trains are about the same distance (six blocks) away: the A/C at Nostrand Avenue, and the G at Bedford and Nostrand. Shopping and dining spots can be found along Bedford, Nostrand, and Lafayette, and other destinations nearby include the YMCA and the Kosciuszko Pool.
